What is Build-A-Thon?

The Build-A-Thon is an annual build between AmeriCorps/ Habitat for Humanity. In the past all AmeriCorps members from across the country have come together to build homes in one location during the week of May 8 (AmeriCorps Week). HOWEVER, this year a little twist has been added. This year members are heading off to seven different locations across the country to not only build new Habitat homes, but work on Neighborhood Revitalization Initiatives "NRI" as well (i.e. painting, home repairs, installing ramps, or landscaping, etc...)

Laura and Emily will be painting, roofing, and doing disaster recovery with the Greater Birmingham affiliate through NRI. They will be joined by over 60 other AmeriCorps and Habitat members from various states.

Check out this sweet video from last year's Build-A-Thon!!  AND for more information on what Laura and Emily will be doing, take a peek at the Birmingham, AL affiliate's press release!

A Wee Bit on Laura and Em

Here's a lil' bit of history on these two:

Laura was born and raised in Columbia, and has decided to call it home. She has worked at the ReStore for almost two years, but attended Midlands Tech for Human Services beforehand. She has a beautiful little niece, Sophie, who she's absolutely in love with.

Emily is originally from Maine and moved to Cola three years ago for grad school. She got her MSW in May and joined the AmeriCorps program with the ReStore back in August 2010. She has worked with Habitat for Humanity since freshman year of college through the Alternative Spring Break program; traveling to Newburgh, NY, New Orleans, LA, and Spartanburg, SC.
